What is emd gp 20?

EMD GP20 is a four-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division (EMD) between November 1959 and April 1962. The locomotive was powered by a 16-cylinder 567C diesel engine, which produced 2,000 horsepower, and had a top speed of 65 mph (105 km/h). The GP20 was the first locomotive to use a turbocharger, which improved its fuel efficiency and allowed it to perform better at higher altitudes.

The GP20 was primarily used for freight service by various American railroads including Santa Fe, Southern Pacific, and Chesapeake and Ohio. Approximately 260 GP20s were built, and many remained in active service well into the 1990s. Some GP20s were also rebuilt into GP20M and GP20D models during the 1980s and 1990s.

Today, some GP20 locomotives can still be found in service on short-line and regional railroads, as well as in preservation at museums and tourist railroads.
